Honduras trip log: I’m here, but my luggage….

…is HOPEFULLY on its way!  Apparently my two-hour delay in Miami didn’t give American Airlines luggage handlers enough time to get my duffel from one flight to the other.  And since there’s only one AA flight from Miami to Tegucigalpa each day, I’m hoping it’s on its way as I type.  To hold me over, the airline was generous enough to give me these supplies:

More importantly, I’m here safe and sound.  Chris and Cindy are wonderful hosts and I’m excited to dive into documenting the factory workers this morning.

Honduras trip log: Back on the plane

The storm has passed and MIA has resumed operations after a 2 hour delay. We’ll see how long we sit on the runway before actually taking off. Let’s hope there’s no more airsickness nearby.

Tegucigalpa, here I come!

Honduras trip log: Stuck in Miami

I managed to catch up on lost sleep during the beginning of my first flight, only to wake up to roller coaster turbulence over Florida. I handled it like a pro, but the poor 4 year old girl in the seat in front of me didn’t fare so well. I introduced her dad to Dramamine after reliving flashbacks of my sister suffering the same misery at that age, and escaped with only a few splatters on my shoes.

Now my second flight is delayed as a spring storm pounds MIA. I heard a rumor that the Tegucigalpa airport is closed because of similarly bad weather, so this could turn into an interesting day.

Stay tuned for updates….

Honduras trip log: O’Hare early morning

For this trip, I’m experimenting with mobile blogging. My 3:30 wake up brought me to O’Hare nice and early this morning. Here is a rare quiet shot of a usually bustling terminal.

Honduras, New York, Chicago, and more!

Willy Wonka said it best:  “We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that. Reverse it.”

First, I’m excited to announce that I’m going to Honduras next week on a photography project with Tegu.  The company was established by two old friends, brothers Chris and Will Haughey, to create beautiful, simple, imagination-provoking toys in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.  I’m thrilled with the project and can’t wait to get started!  Stay tuned for outtakes along the way.

Second, many of you have expressed interest in seeing my current body of fine art photography, “Explorations“.  I’m excited to announce a fun opportunity to see the art work AND support a great cause.  I teamed up with Cabrini Green Legal Aid‘s Young Professional Board to show my work during their upcoming annual Wine Tasting fundraiser event.  The event is Thursday, May 13th, from 6pm to 9pm, at Skylight Studios.  For more information and to buy tickets, go to www.cgla.net.

And last, a few images from a recent East Coast trip.  Many thanks to Andy and Pam for finally getting hitched and giving us an excuse to head east!

Desert wedding

with one comment

I finally had a chance to go through the rest of my images from last month’s trip out to the desert.  Here is a shot from a box canyon hike and a detail from the wedding reception.

Congrats again to Stef and Andrew!  Thanks for giving us a fun excuse for a weekend away.
