Happy New Year!

with one comment

Happy New Year to all of my faithful followers!  2010 was an amazing year, and I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for contributing to its success.

The stats helper monkeys at WordPress.com helped me create a 2010 summary.  The year’s 36 new posts and 84 new pictures were viewed about 5,400 times.  That’s amazing!

2010’s most popular posts and pages were:

1) Nelson: Announcing a new series

2) About this blog

3) Amputation surgery

4) Winter on the Chicago River

5) Extensions at the David Strawn Art Gallery

So I guess I need to take more pictures of my dog and amputation surgeries (hopefully not in the same shots, though).

Thank you again for all of your help and support last year.  I can’t wait to see where 2011 takes us!

Sights and Sounds from David Strawn Gallery

with one comment

Thank you so much to everyone who has expressed their support for my latest show at the David Strawn Art Gallery, especially Director Kelly Gross and the Jacksonville Art Association for hosting me.  It was a huge success with tons of great feedback and sales that exceeded my expectations!

For those of you who couldn’t make it to Jacksonville, IL for the opening, luckily enough I have a few clips and pics from the evening.  First, I’m swallowing my embarrassment and posting a video of my artist’s talk.

Many thanks to my wonderfully supportive wife for doubling as my videographer.

I’m still working on the latest installment in my “Extensions” series, a composite from the show’s opening.  These composites take a while to build, so keep an eye out for it in the next day or two.

WI PotD: June 3

Happy summer from the shores of Lake Beulah!

As many of you know, I’m spending my third summer as the Beber Camp staff photographer.   Continuing on last year’s tradition, I’m bringing back my Wisconsin Photo of the Day (“WI PotD“) series.  While I might not post a photo every single day, I’ll do what I can to keep a regular flow of images coming your way.

We’re still a few weeks away from the official start of camp, so this first shot comes from last month’s Leadership Weekend.  It was a great opportunity for the supervisory team to get to know each other and start brainstorming for the summer.

And yes, supersized Jenga IS as fun as it looks.

Explorations at Jane’s

A quick note to let everyone know about the latest opportunity to see my art work. Jane’s Restaurant on Cortland in Bucktown will be home to my “Explorations” collection for the summer. If you bought the recent Groupon for Jane’s, be sure to bring a group with you to appreciate my prints. It also happens to serve delicious food, so spread the word and stop by.

Explorations guest appearance

leave a comment »

Needless to say, I’m home safe and sound from a fantastic trip to Honduras.  I wrapped up the week with almost 7,000 images, which I’m slowly editing down to a manageable group.  More outtakes, and eventually final images, will be posted here soon — I promise!

In the meantime, I’m also preparing my Explorations show for a guest appearance at the Cabrini Green Legal Aid’s annual Wine Tasting (and art show) fundraiser event.  The organizers are expecting hundreds of attendees, all of whom will be treated to an evening of wines, art, schmoozing, and a generally warm fuzzy feeling about supporting an incredible cause.

The event is tomorrow night, Thursday May 13th.  If you’d like to attend and haven’t bought your tickets yet, all the information is available here or here.

Honduras trip log: La Ceiba

leave a comment »

I’m finally getting to a chance to post a new update, but where to begin?

At my last post, I was waiting for my luggage to join me here in Tegucigalpa, and thankfully it arrived later that day.  We picked it up at the airport on Tuesday afternoon, headed home to repack for our trip to the North Coast, and went right back to the airport (my third time there in 24 hours).  We caught two propellor plans, enjoyed a hazy sunset on our way out, and arrived in La Ceiba late Tuesday night.

After the first of a series of painfully early 4:30 am starts, we piled into the back of a pick-up for a two hour ride out to the forest.  We stopped for breakfast at what looked to be a Honduran truck stop, and were on the trail by 8:00 am.

Let’s just say the rest of the day proved to be very adventurous in more ways than one (including pulling over a dozen ticks off of me over the next few days).  Unfortunately, I need to pack my bags and catch a flight home, so I’ll write more about our hike into the forest in my next post.

Honduras trip log: I’m here, but my luggage….

…is HOPEFULLY on its way!  Apparently my two-hour delay in Miami didn’t give American Airlines luggage handlers enough time to get my duffel from one flight to the other.  And since there’s only one AA flight from Miami to Tegucigalpa each day, I’m hoping it’s on its way as I type.  To hold me over, the airline was generous enough to give me these supplies:

More importantly, I’m here safe and sound.  Chris and Cindy are wonderful hosts and I’m excited to dive into documenting the factory workers this morning.
